The NPPA
was established in 1919 by concerned
local residents. Over the years the organisation has advocated,
battled, cajoled, and made a bloody nuisance of themselves for the sole
purpose of the betterment of its community - with whomever it needed to.
Our vision
is "a dynamic, progressive, self-contained suburb".
The organisation
prides itself on values of leadership,
tenacity, integrity, and no fear. Organisations that have been supported
by the NPPA include the Newlands Volunteer Fire Brigade, Nga Hau e Wha o
Papararangi, Newlands Community House, Newlands Toy Library, Grenada
Village Residents' Association, Newlands Plunket, Newlands Tennis Club,
Churton Park Residents' Association, Newlands Indoor Bowling Club,
Woodridge Planters, and numerous others.
All residents are
automatically members of the
organisation, and are more than welcome to attend any meeting of the
group, or contact members of the Executive at any time.
Recently the
NPPA has been working with the Johnsonville Progressive Association on
shared issues in and around Johnsonville. |

Civil Defence

written to Fred Mercoy, head of the Wellington Emergency
Management Office, and asked him to provide the NPPA with a
report on progress for Civil Defence in the Newlands area.

survey proper will be undertaken in late September/early

Community Centre First Birthday Celebration
The
weekend was a resounding success. The NPPA’s stall collected
signatures for the petition and a number of email contacts for
electronic copies of the newsletter and street audit
documentation. Foodstuffs staff were rapt with the enthusiasm
from the Community as they were outlining the proposed details
of the new supermarket. Currently the council is receiving
submissions on the supermarket. The NPPA has made a submission
supporting the proposed New World supermarket.
