WORKSHOPS

Workshops will be either facilitated by an individual facilitator, or managed by an expert panel.

Each workshop will ask participants to bring an idea back to the main body of the conference to consider and vote on.

Workshops will run along four streams:

     Stream A: Social Capital

     Stream B: Community Competence

     Stream C: Information

     Stream D: Equity

SPEAKERS

At the moment we're in negotiation with a number of individuals and groups but cannot make any firm statements at this stage.

However we can promise the speakers, panellists and workshop facilitators will be provocative, dynamic and will contribute a wealth of knowledge and experience to the conference delegates.

DEALS FOR DELEGATES

Christchurch is a thriving, busy city and the wider Canterbury Region offers much to visitors and locals alike.

We'll be partnering with local businesses to provide great deals to delegates on accommodation, eating-out options, entertainment and shopping.

National Conference of Residents' Associations

Community Governance Conference 2012: Beyond Resilience is the title of the upcoming event planned for October 2012 with a one-day regional forum in May.  Both events will be held in Christchurch.

This conference will be a bold initiative to revitalise involvement in local government affairs by New Zealanders.

The inaugural conference, held at Parliament Buildings in Wellington last April was a huge success, and has paved the way for a bigger, better, brighter gathering of delegates.

Work is currently underway to identify a suitable venue for the conference, which will attract between 500 to 1,000 delegates from residents' and civil society groups, NGOs, and local- and central government.

CONFERENCE THEME

"Beyond Resilience"

In this time of global and local turmoil the concept of resilience is fast coming into vogue.

But what does it look like to be resilient?  Resilience only emerges when something bad happens... so how can we know when we are resilient?

And what happens when we do get to that stage?

The theme "Beyond Resilience" allows an exploration of where New Zealand society is heading and how it can be shaped at a community level.

The workshops will discuss the four attributes of community resilience, leading to ways of allowing and empowering ordinary citizens to take responsibility and ownership of their future.

VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES
